High cortisol
What does “high” mean—and what does it not establish on its own?
Understand the context
Cortisol varies over the day. A clinician interprets a test in the context of timing, the test method, medication use and your medical history. Feeling stressed or noticing body changes does not establish a cortisol disorder.
Prolonged pathological glucocorticoid excess can occur in Cushing's syndrome. This is different from assuming that every stressful day means Cushing's.
If you have an abnormal result or persistent, progressive or concerning symptoms, discuss them with a qualified healthcare professional. Our routine tools are not treatment for high cortisol.
